BARRE/PILATES Join Joy Garrison, YMCA Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, for this 6 week session, beginning September 4, 2015. In this barre-based class, you will use a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on strength training, combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements.
YOGALATES This class is a fusion of Yoga and Pilates. A Yogalates session will include exercises and poses to cultivate strength, stamina, stability and flexibility with particular attention paid to building and strengthening the abdominal and back muscle groups; the “core” muscles.
PILATES This is a low intense, low impact fitness exercise that focuses on core strength, balance and flexibility. Specific breathing techniques are taught in correlation with the exercises. It is designed to follow a certain order of exercises using several repetitions. When executed properly, excellent results in overall body conditioning are noticed.
YOGA FIT Yoga Fit is not only about stretching, but truly about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement or more slowly to increase stamina and to perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has been trained.
